Are you drawn towards white interiors?

In the first part of this post we touched on how an element of wood and plants can give much personality to your white colour scheme. Or do you prefer to add a black accent or some other subtle neutral colour to your otherwise white room? Or marble for more luxurious look?

Read on to discover some more ideas on how to add charm to your white room.

Tip 6 – Use a statement light

When we were renovating our flat, I knew lighting was very important to me. I must admit it took me quite a while to pick our lights on a restricted budget; but it was worth the effort!  A statement light adds so much character to any space. Sometimes it is good to go oversize as it creates even more drama in the final design of the room. Alternatively pick an unusual shape, or group several together for a bigger visual impact.

Tip 7 – Introduce metals

A trendy way to decorate with white is to introduce a metal element. It adds a more expensive feel to your home. As well as traditional chrome, you can opt for either a gold or copper finish in your home. In an old country house brass would look fabulous as an accent material. Metal can be introduced to all parts of your home. From lighting, mirrors, picture frames to all other accessories, the list of options is endless. My personal taste is to only use it sparingly as a feature. This will give your space an elegant and more luxurious feel.

Tip 8 – Make use of pictures

One of the easiest ways to give character to any space is to add pictures to it. Art has a unique power to give soul to your home. If your aim is to have a room that feels completely white, then use pictures of a similar colour. For example you can buy white frames and put pictures in it in neutral colour scheme which I disscussed earlier on. A more dramatic look will be achieved by adding black and white photos. Maybe you would prefer to accent your plants and coordinate the art with it. As you already know, using wooden frames for your pictures will bring warmth to your home.

Tip 9 – Add Textiles

A sterile white room will gain more character by adding different textures. Use  a fluffy rug to add comfort and warmth to your living room. Buy variations of different types and shades of cushions for your bed or sofa. This will add needed contrast despite a lack of other stronger accent colours. In winter months add a throw or sheep skin for a cozy feel in your room.

Tip 10 – Stage with all accents – add personality to your space

Final touches in any design are so important. Accessories bring more personality to space. Look at your room and think, where can I add some interest to it? Can I dress my tables with some nice decor? What if I grouped  books and objects on some shelf display? Consider all corners,  even your window sill decor can tell some sort of story.
